Another Sea Day... en Route to Santa Cruz de Tenerife
We arrive in Tenerife on Monday, so this was the first of two sea days.
The day began with a “Coffee Chat.” Verity’s guest, as others and I had requested, was lecturer Gavin W. Roser, who answer questions about his background. He’s one of our favorite lecturers, and he leaves us in Tenerife. He’s always in a jacket and tie for his lectures, so this outfit was a surprise.
We slept in because of our guilty pleasure — streaming Downton Abbey — so we missed the first lecture of the day, but we caught the second one which was by Mike Seigel, speaking about gladiators. The origin and 500-year growth of the “sport” was not what we expected. Here are four of his final slides.
We missed the evening lecture because of a birthday party for friends Joel and Maggie in Manfreddi’s restaurant. A good time was had by all, with excellent service by Restaurant Manager Dejan Gami and a favorite waiter, Leo from Zimbabwe.
There was a port talk about Tenerife this afternoon, so we got to learn about this Spanish territory and the different shore excursions that Rita and I are signed up for. We are now in London’s time zone, although we’ll be in the central European time zone when we visit Spain itself next week.
It’s after midnight, but I won’t close without mentioning singer Toni Warne’s final performance this evening in the Star Theater. She’s an amazing vocalist. You may recall me mentioning after her first performance that she was a finalist in the British version of The Voice. Here’s a link to Toni’s page on her agency’s website.
Bye for now.
